Field Trip Theatre, Washington D.C. - 2014

“Origin Story”

This was the first play of mine to receive a workshop outside of my hometown. Field Trip Theatre, headed up at the time by artistic director, Danielle Mohlman, afforded me a chance to dig into this one-act play I’d written about faith during times of tragedy, guilt we carry with us and the ways we process grief at a young age and how it informs how we do so when we’re older. This play evolved tremendously during the workshop. The dramaturgy provided by Alan Balch was invaluable. Nick Vargas was able to bring out the humor and humanity in the play wonderfully. This play focused on how a brother and sister dealt with tragedies at two separate times in their lives while interrogating their connection to faith, God and their responsibility to family.

“Drift Wood”

“Drift Wood” is the first full-length play I wrote. It underwent a workshop in 2014 at Live Arts Theater as part of the “New Works on Fire” workshop, as it was named at the time. This play delved into the relationships of three close friends living in a small Midwestern city in the few years after college. Determining profession, ambition and purpose, these three struggle to forge their paths in life while being anchored to old ties and relationships. They find that oftentimes you have to let the past go before you can move forward, even if it means saying goodbye to each other.
